Northumbria’s Fortresses

North East has the greatest density of Castles in England. On this tour you will be able to experience three of the Castles of the North East. Firstly Newcastle’s Castle which gave its name to the city around it. From there we will travel to Warkworth Castle the fortress and home of the Percy’s of Northumberland. Now ruined Warkworth still is an impressive Castle. Alongside this you will also be able to see the private chapel of the Percy dynasty, fortified Bridge and Norman Church which are all a part of Warkworth today. Following visiting Warkworth the tour will proceed to Bamburgh Castle. This impressive castle was refurbished in the 19th Century by Lord Armstrong a Victorian industrialist. During the tour you will be able to try the equipment of a Norman Knight. In the evening you will be able to enjoy a meal in Bamburgh Village.

Itinerary

This tour is a whole day tour. All weather clothing will be required and walking shoes. There will be a lunch break but bring any additional food or drinks along with you on the tour. The terrain of Bamburgh and Lindisfarne can be steep and uneven this tour may be unsuitable for those who are recovering from injuries or do not feel comfortable on longer distance walks.
