Durham – The Prince Bishop’s Fortress
Durham Cathedral stands impressive and mighty on the rocky outcrop it is built upon. Built over forty years, Durham is often a contender for the most beautiful church in the British Isles. Following a tour of Durham and the Cathedral, we will enter the Open Treasures – a museum showing the treasures of the Cathedral as well as Durham Castle. The Museum of Archaeology beside the cathedral also has an extensive collection of North East history. There are a number of lunch options in Durham city and you will be able to enjoy some free time before we proceed to Urshaw Collage in County Durham, a former Catholic seminary, to see this mostly unchanged seminary in the North East.
Welcome to Durham. We will introduce you to this historic city and show you how it has been shaped by history! The Tour will cover Durham from its earliest history and include its Golden age of the Medieval Bishops of Durham through to the modern day. This tour is one of the best ways to see Durham during a visit to the North East. Discover the open treasure and Urshaw collage.
The start of the tour will be from Durham Station on the day
The end of the tour will be at Urshaw Collage
