Set in stunning English countryside, you’ll discover how soldiers lived on this iconic frontier of the ancient Roman Empire.
Once the frontier of the Roman Empire, Hadrian’s Wall is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Starting at Steel Rigg, we’ll walk the two-and-a-half miles to the Roman fort of Housesteads – the most complete Roman fort remaining in Britain. This will give you the opportunity to see the wall up close, discover its milecastles and take in the wild geography of the frontier.
After visiting the fort, we’ll stop for a well-earned lunch at the Twice Brewed Inn. We’ll then proceed to Vindolanda, a Roman supply base that has been extensively excavated, where you’ll get great insight into the lives of people who lived here in Roman times.
